Let's Go Fly Kite

We were at the first Kite Festival organised by NTUC Income and ACT 3 yesterday. Our first family-own kite is a butterfly which we bought from a mama shop near our house for $5.80. James was a terrific kite flyer - have been with him for 20 years and this was the first time I see him in real flying action and was quite amazed by his skills. This first kite-flying outing for the family was loads of fun and it was great to see so many beautiful and colourful kites in the sky.

The day would have ended perfectly if not for the parking ticket that we got. The turnout was overwhelming and as expected the carparks at West Coast Park were inadequate. We could have followed the many cars and parked along the main road but being considerate citizens, we parked at the nearby Heavy Vehicle Carpark though it meant a longer walk to the park. We got a summon for being considerate whereas the few hundred cars that were parked along the highway was safe and sound even though they were obstructing traffic and causing a massive jam. I was furious and rest assured I am going to complain to HDB. It just doesn't make sense! And I seriously think that HDB is missing the big picture here - the government has been advocating family bonding through such events and while we are following the government's call of spending quality family time, we just can't have a peace of mind as some 'responsible' Wilson attendents were busy issuing summons. It is ridiculous......

hi Jessie, empathise, empatise....

The organisers should have made better arrangements for parking knowing the big turnout. Like find a big plot of vacant land for people to park, it could be further away and then provide free shuttle buses to ferry the crowd there. Having to worry about finding parking and getting summons is indeed very stressing and makes the experience less enjoyable.
