Good Bye Sunshine

Yesterday morning, Papa woke up and found Jamie’s littler hamster dead. She was obviously bitten to death by her bigger and stronger sister – orh, poor hamster! We decided to dispose (not quite properly) the dead hamster before Jamie woke up. She was obviously upset when we told her the tragic, orh poor girl! What followed was a series of life and death questions which I tried my best to answer.

Jamie: So, what happen to Sunshine’s body now?
Me (crossing my fingers while saying this): Oh, papa put it in a box and placed it near the rubbish chute downstairs. The cleaning uncle will bring it out to cremate it, remember when Neh Dou passed away, we have to cremate her body?

Jamie: Oh, but what if the uncle doesn’t know it is a dead hamster and throw the box away?
Me (crossing my fingers even harder): oh, don’t worry, I am sure he will open it up and check before he throws it away.

Jamie: Why did Rainy (the bigger sister) bite her to death?
Me: Oh, hamster are very territorial, they are animals and sometimes some animals are very vicious and violent that they will fight their own kind. But we human beings are different, we can communicate with each other so we don’t do such things. So, you see, you cannot fight with your brother or else accidents may happen.

Jamie: So, will Sunshine go to heaven?
Me: Yes, she has been a good hamster so she will go to heaven.

Jamie: So, will Rainy go to heaven since she has been such a bully and bit her sister to death?
Me: I think so since she has a good owner like you…

She cried a little and wrote this little poem for her poor hamster...
